Support Us - Volunteering                    back

Telford Samaritans rely entirely on volunteers to run the centre and charity shop. There are a variety of ways in which you can support us and the roles available are identified below.

Being a Samaritan can be rewarding and the benefits are many:

· You can make a difference in someone's life.

· You will be doing something worthwhile.

· You will learn skills that will help you in all the other parts of your life.

· You will make new friends.

Listening

The listening role is our most frontline position and will carry out the very service that Samaritans is all about. You will be ‘listening’ through the phone, emails or face-to-face and providing real help to the thousands of people who make contact with the centre each year.

The night shift is always a very difficult shift to fill, although it’s absolutely vital that we keep the service open 24:7. If you apply for this role and don’t mind doing extra night shifts, just mention ‘I want to be a Night Owl’ during your information session.

Administration

In the administration role you will be assisting the day-to-day running by providing essential administration support to all functions of the centre. This role can be very rewarding to people who don’t want to be listening volunteers but still want to support the centre.

Fundraising

Telford Samaritans are an independent charity and as such need to raise vital funds that allow us to keep the centre open to continue to support the community. As a fundraising volunteer, you will have the key role of planning and delivering the fundraising activities of the branch.

Reaching out

A key part of our work is by reaching out into the community and talk to schools, colleges, community groups and organisations about the work that we do. As with other roles, reaching out to communities is completely volunteer run and if you enjoy talking about what we do, this is the role for you.
